The Covid-19 outbreak had ensured that the 2020 MRS golf day was postponed until the 6th September and that the day’s events were restricted to comply with the social distancing rules.  These considerations meant that fewer golfers were allowed to take part and the usual evening prize giving and prize draw was also prohibited.  The primary effect of these was to reduce the amount raised for the Market Research Benevolent Association (MRBA).

The consolation was that the day went well and both competitions were successfully completed with the rain holding off until the very end and only affected a couple of groups finishing the Greensomes’ competition.  But I’m getting ahead of myself…

The morning started with the traditional coffee and bacon butty sponsored by Critical Research and provided to each of the 17  golfers taking part in this year’s golf day.  So everyone was set ready to tee off for the morning Stapleford Competition, sponsored by Askia.

Results of Stapleford Competition:

Winner (by countback) David Alterman – 42 points (19/23)
Runner Up Simon Thomas – 42 points (20/22)
3rd Place Stewart Tippler – 39 points
Nearest the pin (Sponsor Sample Ninja) Paul Kingsley-Smith
Longest Drive (Sponsor Web Creator Suite) John Hicks

Lunch was sponsored by Global Lexicon and consisted of the Chobham Golf Club standard fare of ham, egg and chips or alternatively the vegetarian option for those so disposed.  Either way the addition of a quick libation was enough to put everyone in the mood for the afternoon Greensomes Competition, sponsored by The Research Club.

In accordance with the usual practice the afternoon pairs competition provided a second chance to win nearest the pin and longest drive as well as the usual winners and runners up.
